Spray Tanning in 2013! What's New?

New for 2013! We are in March and even though we sale a lot of equipment this time of year, our tanning solutions and the stock items are still a big focus of ours. To get the perfect spray tan we depend just as much on them as we do our equipment’s. So our focus is being able to offer them at the best prices and the best value packages to make every purchase count.

Since this is the busiest time of year for us and you, we write this short article to update ourselves on new changes and remember where we were one year ago. We have new specials on our tanning solutions. The new collection of 2012, the tan essentials was introduced to us and right now you can buy any one 32oz liter and get your chose of the 2^nd bottle half off. Also in the Tampa Bay collection you can get any 128oz gallon and the second half off if you’re looking to stock heavy for your salons.

Our disposable wear packages have not changed much this year. We have lowered the price of them some but they are still the same package designs. Many of our customers have enjoyed them the last year and we saw no way to make them really better than they already are.

More popular options in colors have been produced and our sales of these items have moved up. We have introduced the new turquoise pop up tents and hope new color option will be available for them soon. Tan Essentials has them Glam Collection in the turbine machine in four colors and the Maxi Mist still has the Gemstone collection in five colors. Both have been reduced in price which may account for them becoming a little more popular.

Maxi –Mist spray tanning equipment has gone under a new upgrade. Their new designs are being released this month. Maxi-mist likes to update their equipment every year and they always do a really great job. Their spray guns are remaining the same, and their turbines are getting a new design. They are even updating the names of them to the Maxi-Mist Evolution.

The Tan Essential was introducing in the US in 2012. They have been a really great new brand and have an affordable price to go with it. There sales almost out did Maxi-Mist in 2012 but remained just a tad behind. Their company has been a pleasure working with us and our customers to help solve any problem that has arise. We look forward to helping them build more here in the United States.

Even though Turbine Machines are the most popular right now in the spray tanning industry, we would like to encourage our followers to take more consideration in an Airbrush System. We have been working with Iwata, Paasche, and Badger companies for over 7 years now and we here know the values of having these types of equipment’s over turbines in our salons. These companies have done serious updates and are being overlooked on their high performance, over faster tanning with larger spray guns at lower prices. Airbrush offers so much more in services with nails, tattoo, and the growing popularity of airbrush makeup. These are manufacturers right here in the United States working hard for us and we should take more considerations on some of the great products they have available. Their equipment is some of the best and their systems have not changed much in the past few years, but why fix something that is not broken. 20 Years of Tanning Beds

Patricia Krentcil, also known as the ''The Tanning Mom" has reformed and is no longer using the UV Light tanning beds to get her tan. She has been seeking professional help to deal with her excessive tanning disorder also known as Tanerexcia, and we wish her well in her quest. Patricia Krentcil became famous in 2012 for the allegations (never proven) of letting her 5 year old tan within a tanning bed which ended up producing burns on the child.

This last year, many of us has looked to Patricia and judged her for what she has done to herself, but she is not alone with her disorder. Tanning salons all across the board have seen the effect 1st hand of over tanerexcia with UV lights. It has been happening for a long time now, and I feel that Patricia has brought this more into light for our industry. Many of you may have had the discussion with a client or two over excessive tanning and possible have recommend some safe alternatives or skin treatments for these clients. If you haven't before spoken up to them, please do mention some of your concerns to them and let them know you are thinking of there health. In the end it is the clients decision if they change there methods or not, but I do think you will get some brownie points for being concerned for them.

As many of you know, tanning effects our skin. The more we tan the more we harm ourselves in health and our skin as we grow older. It is important to remember the #1 rule in tanning and that is to moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Hydrating our skin while tanning helps our body heal and except the tan more. It doesn't matter what type of tanning method you use, The sun, UV lights and even sunless tanning. Our skincare is #1 not the tan. We encourage salons not to focus on just tanning products within there businesses but to look at skin care treatment and regiments that your clients may be interested in. Lotions, creams, mud mask, body wraps, mineral treatments, there are so many to choose from that can help keep our skin healthy while tanning. Offer them as retail items for purchase or start offering the services yourself and bring in extra income. Many larger salons already offer these types of treatments and even have the hydration booths.

Many women are taken more of a roll with their skin care regiments like Patricia Krentcil who is seeking new skin treatments and her skin is already starting to improve. It is never to late to start caring for your skin no matter what the damage may be. UV Tanning has come a long ways in the last 20 years and so have the people who have used these services. We all have learned a lot and we still are learning new things to this day.

Tanerexcia is something we should all look into and learn more about. It is like most any other additions we have and we encourage you to learn more on the subject. Included is a link to Wikipedia about tanning additions.

Winter is just around the corner and as we all know our tans will be going into hiding very soon. Tanning in the winter just doesn’t seem as important as to the rest of the year. But there are those moments, where a little cleavage is needed and we need the nice golden and rejuvenating tan skin that makes us all feel young and desirable again. What better way to tan for those moments than with a spray tan?
Salons and business owners should take this time to market their spray tan services more. Give deals and when I say deals I mean GREAT deals. Think about it for a moment. By bringing in more spray tan customers you can boost sales and cut expenses. Here are a few;

Spray tanning is fast and easy.
Solutions are less expense than ever before.
You save power with spray equipment over tanning beds.
Your customer will feel instantly better with their appearance.
By helping your customers save, they feel more appreciated to you.
Prepare for the sale by ordering in Gallons or more bulk.

Depending on what you charge for your services, think about cutting your prices in half or close to it. You may be thinking that is too much. But if you can have a customer come in twice as much as before, would your sales still not be about the same? Sure you may be buying a little more on solutions than before but maybe you also can look into something less costly in blends of solutions for this type of special. The point is you need to keep those customers coming in and if your customer feels they are getting a deal, they will be back.

Modify them to suite your needs. Have restrictions or time frames where needed.

Marketing is the key factor in upping your cliental this time of year. A promotion this big should hit all key areas in marketing for your business. You will want to start with your own client base to start. The customers that are coming to should be the first to know of your promotions. Also change it up a bit and offer different specials at certain times or have more than one going on. Get the word out to your local area and bring in signup bonuses for new clients. Get those gears turning in your heads and come with a creative way to market your items and services.

Winter is not a loss. Many small salons cut back business hours because business is slow this time of year. But you do not have to cut those hours. You have to be innovative and refresh. Sure your sales may not be as good as they are in the peak season but you can still make a decent profit for your business. We all take a loss this time of year because we are a seasonal business. But we don’t have to just go with it. We can fight against it and make our businesses stronger, better, and bigger than ever before. Success never happens overnight but takes time. To Fight a War for Safety!

Due to the new allegations by, ABC News, that spray tanning is not safe; we must take matters into our hands and fight the war FOR safety within our businesses. Protective materials are needed for our workers and also our clients. Another bar has been set for spray tanners and it is time for us to learn new techniques and better habits in the protection of all around us.

A new safety line will be on display through us by the end of June. These products will able to better protect us all. In the line you will see nose filters for clients and masks for worker to use whichever they may like. Eye covers for clients and safety glasses for workers will also be listed products. Package lip balms and even though you may already have them, gloves to.

Is Spray Tanning Safe? The uprour!

The question is really unknown at this time. ABC News came out with a broadcast last week which states within it that sunless tanners are not safe. This has brought many of you who do spray tanning to us for more information. Even though it has not yet been proven that spray tanning is dangerous, we need to take better precautions with our health and with others.
In the broadcast, Joe Levy a salon owner himself and a spokesman for the spray tanning industry, was questioned about the hazards of the DHA ingredients for in Spray tanning solutions. I feel that he did a great job in defending the salon industry in the broadcast. He later posted a video on Youtube stating that he felt that ABC was targeting salons but not other main distribution companies for their lack of warnings on these products. You can see what he had to say himself on You Tube now with Joe Levy.
FDA has always had DHA (dihydroxyacetone) listed as safe for external uses such as on the skin but not for internal uses. Their last update on their findings were in Aug 2006 and there statement is published online for you to see. (FDA- DHA dihydroxyacetone)
The Scientific Committees of Europe also has a study on DHA that you might like to see.
Another new article was posted on Yahoo News about Spray tanning and the dangers you may face. You may like to see what they have written in this.
These articles and broadcast are really focusing on spray tanning and salons who do these types of services. It is hard to say yet on where this may take us in the near future but we do need to get on top of it now. Sunless Tan Masters will be listing several new safety products for spray tanners around the end of June. We will also be coming up with new disposable bundle sets that may be able to help salons cut these extra cost.
As for consumers who use salons for spray tanning, they could see a rise in cost due to these new safety precautions.

Is Mobile Tanning right for me?

Helping people with the purchase of spray tan equipment, whether it is for their homes, salon and spa businesses or even mobile tanning, has been a pleasure of mine. This time of year I am helping more salons than ever before, in the purchase new equipment for there businesses. But it is the small personal businesses which are looking to get started that I would like to focus on in this blog today. There are many challenges and questions that need to be answered before even the purchase of equipment itself. So lets ask the big questions and see if a mobile tanning business is right for you.

Question One: Who will be my competition and how are there services? Research is key for your local areas. You need to know what others are doing and what type of deals and services they perform. Remember they already have a place of business that is viewed in your area and already have some marketing in play. So you need to be creative and know how to step it up an notch. Don't just do this one time but research your competition often to see what they are doing new. I always think it is best to come up with at least one new idea a month.
Question Two: What type of marketing can I do and how much do I have to spend? Many of your clients at first will come from word of mouth spread by your friends and family and there are many things you can do there in speading the word. But to make a successful business, you always need to bring in new clients. Check local papers, radios, bulletins, billboards, and other local medias to find what is working for others. Also look online for local listing and place your business in some of them. With more people having the web at their finger tips, you can't go wrong there. Know what you have to spend and stick with a budget for several months and try different things. Have those friends also helping you out, they won't mind giving a review or giving a card out here and there. They want you to succeed.
Question Three: How much time are you looking to invest and how far will you go? With mobile tanning, your on the go, so you need to be flexible with your hours as much as possible. You also need to know how far in your local areas you will travel since this also deals with your time. Stick with certain areas and don't travel outside of them unless it is really worth it (say a taning party or something big). Keep plenty of time between appointment so your never late and make sure you always have clear direction to where your going. Trust me, getting lost and being late, is not professional.
Question Four: What do I need to know for my business and the education of skincare? Spray tanning is about skincare and a look people are trying to procieve. They want to look good and knowing about skin type and issues will really help you along the way. You don't need to know everything but learn the basic skin types and about skin tones. Common issues like breakouts, dry skin, oily skin, and even skin cancers and knowing what products can help with each will give your clients a respect for you and what you do. It doesn't matter if the client know about a certain treatment or not, they will be grateful that you know and at least care more about them than just a spray tan session. So do your homework, write notes, or even get pamplets from local dermatoligist office to help you and your clients. Finding a online training course for spray tanning is always good because they have many of these topics covered.
Question Five: Do you have the right additude to be a tanning professional? You might wonder why I ask this but it is a question that should be asked. People who succeed in this business are outgoing, friendly, and can show a positive and professional manner. Who you are in your business, will in the end having them come back again and again. Your clients will want to like you and be comfortable about letting you in there homes and the privacy you can offer them. You have to give of yourself and at the same time know when to hold back. Your business will strive in not only what you have to offer them in a product and service but as a friend.

Even though there are only five questions, they are very big ones. You have to commit to each one of them if your going to be a successful mobile business. Mobile tanning can be fun and interesting and has shown me many rewards. But it starts with you and only you can make it a success. So know your stuff and lay the ground work before purchasing equipment. Buying equipment and supplies is quiet easy compared to all the other. And there are many professionals online to help you along the way.

Gearing up for 2012

The new year is upon us and we are gearing up to help our client in more ways than before. Updates have been done to our websites to bring you better prices along with more links to help you find the information you need and have asked for. Your suggestions have all been taken into consideration and we thank you all with your responses.

A few new things you may be seeing this year! More kits and sets in products for new and growing businesses. We are taking steps to include items where you can buy all you need at better prices and without having to go everywhere to find what you need. Many items also have suggestions and add on items when purchasing equipment.

Something new we are looking to open up is our online chat forum again. This will be available during the busiest part of the season, February though June of 2012.

We are also working on an online training program to go with our How to Articles and Video training. They can be done in your spare time and will consist of skincare, spray tanning, and also how to deal with problem areas along with helpful guides on dealing with your clients. You can do them online and after you have passed, a certificate will be mailed to you listing the areas you have been trained in.

Hello Everyone!, I am glad to introduce the new Paasche 400T Spray Gun for tanning. Being in this industry for almost 10 years now, I have tried many types of equipment and have a few favorite pieces along the way. We are still in August but some of you may be noticing a slight decrease in business this month. This is the time of year many salons across the US start to see a decline in business and customers coming in. Like clock work every year, we as salons have our peak time and our slow times, but this doesn't mean we can't still have good business coming in. It is time for us to put our thinking caps on and come up with a plan to boost our sales and offer something different and unique. Tornado's Strike our State

Alabama was hit hard the past two weeks with heavy tornados. Our worst blow came last week on April 27th with tornados of EF-5 Magnitude's which have crippled or great state. We here weathered the storm well but it did hurt us also with no power, phone, Internet , or even cellular services for in all about five days. Our friends and families about 10 miles to the north, and 15 miles to the south lost so much more.

I was looking at the state Japan was and still is in, after the tsumumis hit them, right before this happened. Now I see it first hand and it looks even worse than what you see on TV. There is so much to clean up and it has changed the face of our land so much. So hard to believe. Just seeing it can make you feel empty and alone and for the people who did lose, their homes, I feel so sorry for them.

We just wanted to send out this message to let you all know how well we all are and to thank each of you for your kind email's and support. Our suppliers have been great in getting out our orders as fast as possible to help make up for the delays we have had. And to all our customers for there understanding and support . I don't think we realize sometimes how great our country-men can be in supporting each other in our times of need. Its what makes us all so Great.

Teens will be tanning outside

With all the new laws being passed on underage tanning , our kids will be looking for alternative ways to tan. One of the most popular ways for them, will be outside. Children do not understand the dangers of overexposurer to the sun. It is very important for us as parents to remind them if they do decide to tan outside and to limit their time in the sun. We urge you all to encourge more sunless tanning to our youths, no matter what type of sunless tan method they choose.
