Jens Andreas Paasche emigrated from Norway in 1900 at the age of twenty. A gunsmith by trade, he started his own airbrush company in 1904. So that his business might be a success, he worked as much as twenty hours out of every twenty-four. It was not an unusual sight to find him working through the night until the early hours of the morning manufacturing his airbrushes, out calling on the trade at 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., and then back to the one room work shop in the New Era Building which housed a number of artists.
Enlarging his business took him to Clinton Street, then to Washington Blvd. and in 1922 the original factory was constructed at 1909 W. Diversey. This building was subsequently expanded three times. Needing more space the factory was relocated to Harwood Heights in 1985 and then back to Chicago at our current location, 4311 North Normandy Avenue, in 2005.
Always looking for a better way, a more efficient and less costly product, he acquired over 80 patents covering the most complete line of artist airbrushes, industrial, manual and automatic spray guns and airpainting equipment of a great variety. Sales encompass the globe and meet requirements of customers demanding the best.
Selling throughout the world, in spite of foreign competition, our business has never been better. The airbrushes are used by fine artists and photo retouchers, in the Hobby Market for painting planes, trains and automobiles, in the Craft Market for painting fabric, wood, leather, plastics, ceramics, etc., for decorating cakes and pastries with food coloring, by Taxidermists and even for finger nail painting, airbrush tanning , temporary tattoos and painting wall murals.
Mr. Paasche's success over the years was due to a determination to build the best equipment possible that would afford the user with a maximum of efficiency and a minimum of service requirements. We continue in that tradition today as the company is now in the fourth generation of operation.
Paasche Airbrush is proud to be an American Company for over 100 years.
